Colour of the month Burgundy - November 2018

Opulent, seductive, deep warm burgundy; a colour I have always been fond of, yet never thought of using in my home. Burgundy can create a rich and dynamic environment and add a sophisticated edge to your interiors.

Enter a corridor painted from floor to ceiling in a deep burgundy; a living room with baroque inspired damask gold and burgundy wallpaper, with 18th century portraits hung on the walls. Create warmth and coziness by surrounding the fireplace with rich, plush velvet and leather armchairs, and a bee embellished sofa with bird print cushions. A chandelier with Murano-style glass accents and elegant fixtures adds a stunning centre piece; finished off with decanters by Joe Cariati, and hand-blown, diamond-carved glass vases by Jean Salatino & Steven Gandolfo.

For the kitchen, contrast matt and glossy finishes to create depth; burgundy cabinets will bring a dazzling shine on walls, and faux tin Victorian design ceiling tiles will add a vintage feel. Lay your table with a floral print tablecloth, coasters with cotton woven jacquard placemats, topped off with deep burgundy ceramic plates and bowls. Beautifully handmade William Yeoward antique crystal glassware - originally inspired pieces, made in England during the 18th and early 19th centuries - add elegance, in richly hued burgundy.

Striking ombre glass by Olafur Eliasson, a mottled burgundy Victorian copper slipper clawfoot bathtub with a nickel interior adds a modern, yet evocative vintage feel to a bathroom. Complete the bathroom with burgundy veined marble walls, and plush cotton towels finished off with a wonderful art piece in resin - Floral by Marcin Rusak.

Picture a bedroom covered in burgundy and gold Michelangelo Damask wallpaper on one wall, and mottled burgundy painted cement on the others. A Gothic style bed with rich, fine bed linen and yarn-dyed striped pillowcases adds a regal feel to the room, and a vintage Christmas postcard of two lovers kissing under the mistletoe, enlarged and framed, completes the romantic atmosphere….
